{"id":33,"date":"2018-03-01T08:34:40","date_gmt":"2018-03-01T08:34:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/njsportsbookinfo.com\/?p=33"},"modified":"2018-06-20T00:07:44","modified_gmt":"2018-06-20T00:07:44","slug":"ahead-of-the-betting-curve-4-platforms-that-blur-the-lines-between-daily-fantasy-sports-and-sports-betting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/njsportsbookinfo.com\/index.php\/2018\/03\/01\/ahead-of-the-betting-curve-4-platforms-that-blur-the-lines-between-daily-fantasy-sports-and-sports-betting\/","title":{"rendered":"Ahead of the betting curve: 4 platforms that blur the lines between daily fantasy sports and sports betting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Legalized sports betting in New Jersey &#8212; and potentially <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/sports\/betting\/casinos-prepare-for-supreme-court-ruling-on-sports-betting\/\"><b>in many other states<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8212; appears to be on the horizon following <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/chalk\/story\/_\/id\/21666701\/supreme-court-hears-oral-arguments-new-jersey-case-legalize-sports-betting\"><b>December oral arguments<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> before the Supreme Court that by all measures <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsinsights.com\/blog\/people-saying-new-jersey-sports-betting-case\/\"><b>tilted strongly toward New Jersey<\/b><\/a><b><i>.<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A ruling in favor of the state would decisively alter the sports-betting landscape in the United States. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the meantime, <\/span><b>single-game sports betting remains restricted to Nevada <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">while daily fantasy sports (DFS) represents the only way for users (in most states) to legally win and lose money on sports outcomes &#8212; albeit using player performances as the grading measure, as opposed to game results.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There do exist, however, a handful of forward-thinking platforms that have succeeded in further blurring the boundaries between sports betting and DFS through <\/span><b>the<\/b> <b>introduction of contests and games that are rooted in daily fantasy principles, but in practice feel much more like twists on prop betting.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Among the firms that have upped the proverbial ante:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fastpick.com\/\"><b>FastPick<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A house-banked parlay game, <\/span><b>FastPick bills itself as \u201cjust you vs. the house,\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as the platform allows users to parlay the outcomes of anywhere from 3 to 10 daily fantasy matchups on a fixed-odds scale <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.docsports.com\/how-to-what-is-does\/parlay-card-how-relate-sports-betting-wagering.html\"><b>similar to<\/b> <b>prop parlay cards offered by sports books<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Available to New Jersey residents, FastPick, in partnership with Resorts Atlantic City, represents the closest thing to good old fashioned sports betting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usfsports.us\/\"><b>US Fantasy Sports<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>first licensed fantasy company in Nevada<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, US Fantasy Sports\u2019 platform centers around a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamblingsites.com\/sports-betting\/types\/pari-mutuel\/\"><b>pari-mutuel<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> form of fantasy sports whereby users place de facto wagers with floating odds on which players will score the most fantasy points at their respective position in a given game. In January 2018, US Fantasy <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.legalsportsreport.com\/17744\/usfantasy-app-launch\/\"><b>rolled out a mobile app that is available to users in 23 states<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.boomfantasy.com\/\"><b>Boom Fantasy<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A prize-pool based contest, Boom Fantasy pits users against one another answering fantasy-matchup-related questions on a sliding scale of points, with longer-shot predictions (ex. Al Horford will score more points than LeBron James) resulting in users garnering higher point totals in pursuit of prize pools. <\/span><b>A unique feature of the platform, deemed a Jackpot, closely resembles prop parlay cards in that users can commit a small entry fee with the opportunity to win a six- or seven-figure fixed prize pool<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> if they \u201crun the table\u201d on cards featuring eight or nine player-performance-related questions. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.winviewgames.com\/\"><b>WinView<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Utilizing a prop-based in-game model, WinView allows users to answer team- and player-related questions in real time during breaks in the action, making it <\/span><b>the closest thing to the live-betting formats that have become the <\/b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.americanfootballinternational.com\/excitement-accessibility-sports-betting-apps\/\"><b>preferred wagering choice for many bettors in Nevada and overseas<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Points for correct answers are allocated on a house-determined sliding-odds scale, with cash prizes awarded to the highest scores. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Similar to daily fantasy giants DraftKings and FanDuel, platforms like FastPick, US Fantasy Sports, Boom Fantasy and WinView have found ways to further exploit the functional loophole in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fdic.gov\/news\/news\/financial\/2010\/fil10035a.pdf\"><b>Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006<\/b><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that spurred DFS companies into existence.
